South Florida cities have been injecting treated wastewater from sewage treatment plants 3,000 feet deep into a series of caverns beneath the drinking water supply for decades.

Now the same idea has been resurrected as a potential solution to harmful Lake Okeechobee discharges. The idea is nothing new, even when it comes to Lake O and the problem of what to do with its overflow.
